It’s summer and the heat is on … but make sure you keep it off your kitchen countertops.  Hot cookware can leave permanent burn marks on many countertop surfaces, including laminate.  That’s why we always recommend using a protective barrier such as a trivet (or hot plate, if you may) as a final resting place for oven- or stovetop-fresh pots and pans.  It’s also a good practice to use trivets underneath appliances that get hot, such as waffle irons.

Undermount Sinks for Laminate Countertops

Karran 300x225
Did you know an undermount sink is now an option for laminate countertops?

An undermount sink only increases the realism of granite and stone designs, such as our Calacatta Marble featured above.

One manufacturer, Karran, has an installation method that’s pretty straight forward and uses a specially designed adhesive to create a bond between the laminate and the sink so that moisture is never an issue.  View their YouTube channel to learn more about the process, as seen in the video below:

Paul Anater recently gave Formica and Karran some love in his Residential Kitchen Design blog as did Joe Freenor in CFT411.  Check out these posts and then be sure to subscribe!

Kerfkore 300x273
Ever wonder how laminate gets its curves?

Check out the work by The Kerfkore CompanyKerfkore, one of the company’s many products, is a substrate material that allows horizontal or vertical grade laminates, metals, 2-ply and phenolic-backed veneers to be laminated flat and then formed into virtually any shape without stress cracks, delamination or telegraphing.

To see how they do it, watch this great video.

We’ve also added images (courtesy of Kerfkore) to the Formica Group page on Facebook to provide a little design inspiration.
