How To: Remove Scratches From Solid Surface Countertops

solid surface, solid surfacing, countertops

If minor scratches are stealing that just-installed shine from your solid surface countertop, the following steps will bring its finish back to its original glory.

To remove mild scratches from dark colored solid surfacing:

1. Pour mild abrasive liquid such as Comet® Cleanser or Soft Scrub® on a soft damp sponge or damp cotton cloth

2. Rub the area you wish to repair in a circular motion using mild pressure

3. Rinse the area thoroughly with water and completely dry the surface

4. If the damage has not been repaired, repeat steps 1-3

Can you use a variable speed buffer to buff out the scratches for a dark formica solid surface???

We only recommend sanding for solid surfacing. Heat can be an issue with buffing (which potentially could damage the countertop). Buffing also creates a high-gloss finish which can show wear and tear, especially on a dark surface. For this reason, we recommend a low-gloss finish that comes with sanding.
