Vintage Formica In Spring Pastels

With all of the pastels popping up − from Easter eggs to spring dresses to tulip blooms – the laminate countertops featured in our 1950s advertising don’t look so, well, vintage! Here are a few of our favorite images featuring softer side of Formica …

Mid-century modern fans continue to keep pastel décor alive in their kitchens and baths. To see an “extreme” pastel kitchen makeover, check out the April 2 post on Retro Renovation.

We love how the candy-colored pinks, aquas and yellows play nicely with one another, and we're in awe at the homeowners’ paid close attention to period details — including the lovely boomerang-patterned and golden laminate countertops. Thanks to Retro Renovation and homeowners Lori and Ed for allowing us to repost this fabulous remodel!

Looking for reproduction of the vintage formicas. I hate the dull formicas that are on the market now. They are beyond ugly . I am not a CORIAN OR MARBLE, OR CONCRETE, OR RECYCLED GLASS, OR GRANITE COUNTER TOPS. I LOVE SHINEY SURFACES,

Hi Janice,
While our 2013 Anniversary Collection patterns aren't reproductions, they can work well in both "retro" and contemporary kitchens due to the vibrant colors and patterns. You can find them here:
http://www.formica.com/home/WhatsNewAnniversary.aspx.

The Collection comes standard in matte finish; glossy finishes may be more prone to wear in a high-use application such as a kitchen countertop.

I spent 40 years in a house with SHINY formica countertops- after 40 years there was only one small area that was noticeably less shiny. By comparison, the matte finish counters in my new house are terrible- anything metal leaves a black mark that is hard to remove. I don't care for marble/granite look either -Please bring back some "retro" styles-colors with little gold flecks etc.

Hi Lily,
We too share the love for all things retro and understand why you wish we'd bring some of our older patterns back. Truth is, the Boomerang reintroduction and other like patterns didn't have the mass appeal to meet our sales goals and for this reason, they were discontinued.

We do think our 2013 Anniversary Collection, while distinctly modern, does have some retro charm while remaining versatile enough to appeal to a wide variety of audiences.

You can view patterns and order samples here: http://www.formica.com/home/WhatsNewAnniversary.aspx.

They come standard in matte finish, which is recommended for high-use areas such as kitchen countertops.
