Gen X and Gen Y are often portrayed as dramatically different – so naturally Formica Group was interested in whether this position held up when it comes to their attitudes toward kitchen design, and more specifically, toward laminate kitchen countertops. Here’s a bit of insight we recently gleaned from a survey conducted on our behalf from the Research Institute for Cooking and Kitchen Intelligence (RICKI).
-
Gen X is more likely than Gen Y to see the kitchen as the heart of the home.
-
If remodeling their kitchens today, Gen X and Gen Y would both choose a modern/contemporary style over transitional, country/rustic, traditional/old world or shabby chic.
-
Gen X and Gen Y prefer granite countertop looks over all others, with large-scale exotic coming in a close second. Gen Y also is more likely than Gen X to select a woodgrain pattern for their countertops.
-
Gen X and Gen Y also share the same preferences for countertop features, including bullnose or ogee laminate edge treatments over flat, waterfall and bevel edge styles. They also prefer a simple matte finish, with small-scale texture and high gloss following close behind.
