From sustainable materials, energy-saving appliances and outdoor-inspired décor to natural and home-grown foods, homeowners continue to seek ways to green their kitchens. Formica Corporation has noticed an increase in indoor gardens and grow stations; here are some examples of how plant life "greened" kitchens at EuroCucina 2012 in Milan.
Some grew vertical …
... and some grew horizontal …
... while others grew upside down.
Milan provided quite a bit of inspiration ... though you can certainly design an indoor garden for considerably less investment. Just do a quick online search for indoor herb gardens and you'll find all sorts of kits and containers, including those that don't require precious countertop space. A few examples include:
Wall-mounted boxes ...
... wall-mounted pots, such as those featured at IKEA ...
... and even DIY growing stations that can be mounted onto the side of a kitchen island, such as the one featured on HGTV (notice the addition of grow lights to compensate for lack of natural light.)
So, how does your garden grow?
